Rusty Pipes In Florida

florida plumbing quote

Does your water have an odor?  Is what is coming out of your faucet brown, red, orange or yellow? Does your water have some uninvited guests that look like particles?  If your answer is “yes” to any of the above, then you may have rust in your pipes.  Despite all these items being an obvious indication that rust is the culprit …a simple test can seal the suspicions.  Simply put water into a clear glass and let it sit for a few hours.  If the water clears and you see some sediment or a film at the bottom of your glass, then this is oxidized iron.

Don’t get me wrong, a little rust is good for you.  Seriously, it is!  A small bit of oxidized iron is not bad for you.  The body uses this naturally occurring mineral…..it just looks bad, but drink up….it will do you good.

Rust usually comes from older galvanized steel pipes or an iron cased well.  There is really nothing you can do other than replace the pipes with PVC or CPVC pipes.  There is no effective cleaner out there that effectively will remove the rust.  Although replacing your rusty pipes may be a pricey project, you will notice a big improvement in your water pressure and of course, better looking and better tasting water!
